The seasons of protest
During the last sunny days of September, I happened to read the text of the seminar that Jacques Lacan XVII held at the Faculty of Law University Paris from December 1969 to spring the following year.

ti dirò: abituato come sono a tenere tra le mani un oggetto (detto con tutto l'incanto che sta parola evoca) di carta frusciante e odorosa di stampa, sul quale fare orecchie e annotarvi a matita... beh, non so se riuscirò a goderne sino in fondo!
l'unica cosa certa è che t'arriva directly in the mailbox with a great saving ....

O n addition twenty years ago, I took charge of Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann in a long article that mixed urban and popular literature in commemoration of the changes from the time when Haussmann gave Paris started work (1852) and Baudelaire wrote his Petits Poèmes en prose (1855-1864), better known by the title of Le Spleen de Paris. Baudelaire did not know the full Paris transformed since he died in 1867, three years before the end of the work Haussmanian.

I start giving you some clues.

The trees are not stylized, either in the medieval sense nor in the typically Italianate (think certain pictures "Italian" Poussin), a dark green stain almost shapeless as a backdrop to a minimalist sort of church, as the Italian churches are not usually (but of course the Nazarenes, looking for the churches of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance of the very first).

Micheli, traveler caught in the West Indies
As if to mark a continuity of themes and inspiration, the first character to Micheli Giancarlo enters the scene of the new novel is the West Indies Giacomo Puccini, and that is the figure around which the events of the previous provincial Elegy (published in 2007 by Mauro Baroni). Just landed in New York for the premiere of American Girl of the Golden West, the great composer encounters Aurelio and Erminia, a young married couple who came from Tuscany to seek his fortune in the New World. A fleeting encounter, But that seems to set the tone for the entire narrative, in which we find the magnificent style, sought to concettosità of Viareggio Micheli, born in 1967, poet and playwright, as well as narrator of strong ethical caliber. The deep moral sentiment recognizable in every page is the reason why, in the preface to the West Indies, the dean Manlio Cancogni can push to establish a parallel between the struggle for life, the struggle for survival on the end of the nineteenth century by European immigrants United States and the current global financial crisis - again - has had its epicenter in the U.S.. Owners of a small bar on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, who were forced to move to Chicago and New Jersey after the restaurant was burned down by the racket, Aurelio and Erminia strive to remain faithful to each other while taking different routes: the woman scientist is converted to the Church, from whose sentimental humanitarianism feels comforted when the man discovers the cause of egalitarian socialism. These are the years of the first, dramatic trade union, on whose background the novel proceeds sent by reserving a space increasing alla figlia della coppia, la piccola Eugenia, alla quale spetterà di annodare gli ultimi nodi della trama. Un epilogo inatteso e struggente, nel quale la metafora del teatro, già evocata nell’ouverture pucciniana, si rivelerà in tutta la sua urgenza di struttura e significato. Indie occidentali è un romanzo colto e a tratti risentito (il titolo, per esempio, riprende la definizione rinascimentale del continente americano), che il lettore è invitato a percorrere con pazienza, per scoprire non soltanto i segreti nascosti nelle esistenze di Aurelio ed Erminia, ma anche certi rapidi bozzetti d’ambiente. Come quello, davvero suggestivo, del pittore senza talento che riempie di forme sghembe e colori sgargianti i cartoni recuperati the streets of America.

West Indies, a trip in our history
West Indies (Campanotto Press, 2008), the second novel by Giancarlo good Micheli, begins with a history of emigration. A story that has to do with the last century, when erano gli italiani a dover emigrare fuori dal proprio paese. Protagonisti questa volta non sono meridionali, non sono contadini “ignoranti” del rurale Mezzogiorno ma una coppia di sposini toscani e alfabetizzati, consapevoli del proprio valore e con obiettivi da perseguire ben definiti.
Quando penso all’emigrazione italiana penso a quella splendida figura di Amerigo, creatura di gucciniana memoria che lascia il proprio paese, Pavana. E mette dietro a sé le proprie radici con ancora in corpo “il primo vino di una cantina” per non manifestare quella malinconia che penetra nelle vene e nella coscienza.
Micheli ci racconta quel mondo altro, quello al di là dell’Oceano che ad inizio del secolo scorso sembrava così diverso dal nostro. Il quartiere di Little Italy, con le sue storie e le sue “leggende”, anch’esso diversissimo da quello di oggi: quella che era la più grande e famosa delle “little italies” diventa ogni anno più piccola, proponendosi oggi quasi soltanto come due strade, parte della Mulberry Street e parte della Grand Street.
Negli anni venti però quella zona e in più in generale quella città, l’immensa New York che con i suo grattacieli immobilizzava lo sguardo, era stata una porta obbligata d’ingresso, un centro attrattivo, una grande madre dalle braccia non sempre benigne ma comunque grandissime.

How the hell urban metropolis has its contradictions, a mass of humanity that offers language, different customs and conditions. Individual moments of exquisite humanity collide and overlap collective cry of hope, the coexistence of migrants and domestic issues, tolerance, trade union, the workers' struggle.

Personaggi reali e “famosi” – Jack London, Giacomo Puccini, Mabel Dodge – si incrociano con “perfetti sconosciuti” e personaggi di invenzione letteraria, creano un cosmo a sé, una riproduzione ben disegnata di un ipotetico quadro. Il grande merito del libro è poi quello di inserirsi nella più grande tradizione europea, quella ricerca linguistica forzatamente realistica che Auerbach riscontrò in Mimesis nei maggiori autori della nostra storia.
L’uso del dialetto degli immigrati, il gioco linguistico e sociolinguistico con cui mescola le situazioni comunicative più disparate e le espressioni locali, un registro “alto” con moments of lust minutes, make the trip Micheli, because this is a utopian, read, constant desire to search. A desire that the first echoes of history and then we discuss the future and on a problem that now sees us as players and that indirect tomorrow could be touching close.

Have you ever thought about the determination needed to face daily, minute by minute, criticism and suggestions from school who do not understand anything beginning with the Ministers of Education of the public or rather destruction ..
But what other job category would be able to bear such a heavy load moral and social development without rebelling? Only the Professor and those who work in schools that do miracles (Meredith's latest film is shown): do not give up anything, not even in the face of constant attacks, ridiculous salaries and the lack of career ...
